Emotional breakdown failed Nclex

Published

I am so upset...in fact I am crying as I type this up. I graduated with my BSN in May with a 3.4 not to mention keeping my scholarship all four years of college....and then I took the Kaplan class right afterward graduation. I scheduled my first nclex on July 17th and I took all 250 questions and I was so upset to find out that I had failed. I began studying again right off the bat and I ended up finishing the Nclex exam cram book, Prioritization delegation and assignment book, and nursing 101 how to pass along with the learningext website. Overall I did about 4000 questions. I took the nclex for the second time on September 12th and I found out today that I failed again. I am so upset and I am thinking about not taking it again...I dont know how to study for this test and it seems like no matter how many questions I do I dont ever see any of them on the actual nclex. I am desperate for advise or encouragement. This is one of the worst days of my life and I dont know where to turn.

I am so sorry that you didn't pass. Take a few days, work thru your feelings and then ask for some advice:

1. Ask past instructors what direction you should go.

2. Do you get a read-out of what you missed? This should probably be the first place to look.

I'm sure there will be more people along that can offer some more concrete advice. I took the NCLEX in 1994 so it is much different now. I'm afraid I'm not being very helpful.

However, I do offer sincere sympathy. Take care.

*hugs*

I'm sorry.

The only advice I can give is stop cramming. You obviously have the knowledge. Don't spend days and weeks before the exam studying and taking practice tests... all that will do is increase your test anxiety; imo, you can't "study" for boards. Take some time out for yourself, have some fun, do something relaxing. Then just go in and take it. Trust your gut.

take a few days off and try to relax, Do not let it take you down. Check out the NCLEX forum I am sure you will find plenty of support and ideas on what to do next, a few are currently posting who have failed a couple of times so you are not on your own.

Hang in there and good luck

I am so sorry you have had this experience. Once you pass you will be in the ranks of many nurses who did not pass boards the first try. I also recommend that you quit crammnig for tests. Take a practice test now and again, the kind with rationales to help you learn if you are reading too much into the question. It is ok not to be perfect. Do not beat yourself up over this. Please try again.

My daughter has computer sets of sample NCLEX questions she has to answer for school. She is always asking me what do I think this or that answer is. To tell you the truth, many of the answers are things I don't know . This is a really hard test. I know I would be beside myself too if I hadn't passed. You are a really smart person, some of these questions are so tricky. When you feel better, try and look at some different study strategies and relaxation. Here's a (((hug))) from a nurse and a nursing student's mom for you. You will get through this. All the best to you.

So sorry to hear that. i myself have failed it twice too. i'm studying to take it fot the third time. i know how u feel, i cried myself. its hard and , i know you'll beat yourself up over this. but don't, this is a hard test. my teacher told me in school that i over studied and it would not help me. so i'm trying to do about 100 to 200 questions a day. thats it. please hang in there , don't give up. believe me you are not alone. you can do this.

As others have said I would also say stop cramming. There is no way you can study 2 years worth of information for a test like that. I would take a course on test taking skills. I feel that good test taking skills are 50 percent of the NCLEX battle. Find ways to work through your feelings take a deep breath and know you can do this and also you are not alone! I recommend Saunders, they offer GREAT rationals for why answers are right and why they are wrong. I would look into that. You obviously know the material for the NCLEX now its just a matter of learning how to smell out wrong and right answers. Good luck to you, and dont beat yourself up too much

I have to agree with the others - relax!! If you graduated with a 3.4, you certainly aren't stupid! I suspect test anxiety - and maybe too much cramming!

You need to have a little faith in yourself - and take some deep breaths! Maybe learn some relaxation techniques.

I went ahead and moved your post to the NCLEX Discussion Forum. As you can see, you're not the only person who has ever run up against this roadblock - but there is hope!

Check out the "stickies" in this forum for some particularly good info. One of our moderators, Suzanne4, has created a study plan for passing the NCLEX which has helped tons of people.

Hang in there!

Ahh, I'm soooo sorry, but I know it sounds difficult, but hang in there !Like others said here, talk to profs, other RN's , etc... I'm woundering if you may have some test anxiety concerning the NCLEX. Keep your confidence high.....you did a 4 year program with scholerships, held a high gpa. Your able to do this ....don't let the test rule your life...Once you pass, I'm sure you will...You'lll have such a sence of accomplishment. Keep in mind the test tells nothing of how good of a nurse you will be. It's just a test. You'll probably skunk the other RN's when it comes to working. I know it's not easy, but like I said hang in there.,,,,,go ahead give it a good cry....things will be better..!

Where are the stickies everyone is always talking about them but I dont see them.
