In need of some relocation advice. I'm a emergency nurse in California thinking of moving to San Antonio or Dallas area. I am the sole income for 7 people so pay rates are a bit concerning to me. How much can a rn with 14 years experience expect to make there? How many rooms are you typically assigned in Texas ers. Here we do 3 critical care rooms or 4 general care, or 6 fast track per rn. I'm debating moving now or getting my fnp and then moving. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Feel free to pm me.

There are no set pt ratios in Texas, it is facility dependent.

You will take a big pay cut moving to Texas, but the cost of living is also a lot lower, several I know that have moved here from California said they have come out ahead, even with less pay.

Dallas pays a little more than San Antonio, but is more competitive (although 14 yrs experience will help a lot, and if you have a BSN, even more so). No idea on actual pay for the areas, but I know in Houston (which tends to run around what Dallas pays) it is $36-40/hr.

It's a thought, I have bsn, debating getting my aprn prior to moving.... Looking at corpus too. Only thing that has me worried is I live in a low cost of living area of California, I pay 1300 for rent, . No ratios in eds here either only inpatient. How many rooms do typically eds in Texas assign you to, here it's 2 to as many as 5
