I am so nervous, I just feel stuck in med surg, but I really think I would enjoy the ER. Any advice would help.

I have to say that all my co-workers were great, always there to answer all my questions & help me out in a bind! I am learning every day....still scared most of the time. While in MS I would have the same type pts all shift.....sometimes most of them 3-4 days in a row...you get to know them. In the ER you have a lot of different ones in one shift... everything from trauma pts to chronic back pain......you do what you can in the time you have......it is very fast paced most of the time.I just found your post and I myself have been in med surg for a year and a half (since i graduated) I wanted to hear your opinion about the transition to ER. I love it! I just try to listen & ask questions...I ask a lot. I watch the experienced nurses & try to learn from them. I have felt like an idiot a lot, thought I do not need to be here & just do not have what it takes....just plain old did not know what to do some of the time......Then a Doctor came up to me & said he thought I was a really good nurse, he trusted me, & that he was always glad when he came in, & saw I was working....and if he had a private practice he would try to steal me away!:wink2: I thought that was pretty nice & came at a good time.
It takes time I am told to feel comfortable....I am not there yet.
My advice...give it a try if you think you might like it.....Be willing to listen & learn...ask questions....and be willing to do what ever is needed....teamwork makes it so much eaiser. Good luck to you!
