Hi all, I am coming to work in the states soon, have recently passes nclex, waiting for immigration..... Anyway, as I will be ED based with 12 years experience I am reading threads on here trying to get to grips with all the abbreviations that are different to ours! What is the CEN??? I am guessing Certificate in Emergengy Nursing or something similar?? Do you pay for it yourselves, or does you employer fund it? How long does it take to do? Is it needed? Is it aimed more for newly qualified rather than experienced staff? Help!! Forgot to say, am in UK!:uhoh3:

Yes, it's Certified Emergency Nurse. Some places will pay for it, others will have you pay for it yourself. It's nice to have the letters after your name but not required. It's a one-day exam (about 4 hours, I think). It's recommended that you have some ER experience before taking the exam.

Usually there is a class you take that is 2 or 3 days long with the end of it being the exam. The certification requires continued education to renew every two years. I also heard you have to retest every 4 years but I'm not sure about that.
