The next two  in line by seniority are in their 80's and decided to not run (thankfully) and one of them, can't remember who right now endorsed Hakeem Jeffries whom is in his young 50's.

Pelosi steps down at the height of her career and am glad that she's passing that leadership on.  I'll never forget the look of sheer joy and accomplishment when she took the gavel during the Trump administration (whom she did not mention in her speech).

Her speech was good... she leaves an important legacy.

What does “censorship” mean to you?

Younger voters had an impact but can't discount the older ones either.

The party’s success was largely due to seniors, the survey found, particularly women 65 and up who switched support from Republicans to Democrats between July and November.

Like my wife, many women in that age group were not amused by the SCOTUS decision to upset settled law after lying about their intentions under oath.

Semafor is a new outlet for news and analysis. This is an interesting interview with Mike Pompeo.

Quote

Shelby Talcott: More broadly, what do you view as the central issues that any Republican should be running on come 2024?

Mike Pompeo: Yeah, they’re timeless. The central ideas of America are timeless — limited government, expanded set of freedoms, protecting the capacity of people to practice their faith. The very things I spoke about tonight — making sure we don’t teach our kids crap in schools, which we are at the center of doing.

I tell the story often — I get asked “Who’s the most dangerous person in the world? Is it Chairman Kim, is it Xi Jinping?” The most dangerous person in the world is Randi Weingarten. It’s not a close call. If you ask, “Who’s the most likely to take this republic down?” It would be the teacher’s unions, and the filth that they’re teaching our kids, and the fact that they don’t know math and reading or writing. These are the things that candidates should speak to in a way that says, “Here’s the problem. Here’s a proposal for how to solve it. And if given the opportunity, these are the things I will go work on to try and deliver that outcome that fixes that problem.” Pretty straightforward stuff.

I can't disagree that we teach our children crap in schools when high school graduates don't know much about our government or how it's supposed to work and are taught a white washed version of American history. The part about Randi Weingarten just makes Pompeo sound like he hasn't really outgrown his angry tea party roots.

He probably wants us to forget that he also was not publicly facilitating a peaceful transfer of power after Trump lost. He did likely believe that his responses were clever though.

Interesting change in focus as to what the important issue going into 2024 is. Just a month ago it was "inflation, the border and crime in Dem-run cities".  Now it's teachers.
