Eisenhower Hospital Palm Springs CA Any thoughts

Published

I wanted to know if anyone had any thought on Eisenhower Hospital in Palm Springs CA.

I am almost finished at my current assignment in Palm Springs and it's not Eisenhower, its a level II trauma center!!! IT IS THE SECOND WORSE ASSIGNMENT I HAVE EVER TAKEN!!! There core nurses don't do basic nursing care....oral care, hand-washing, turning pt's!!! Its really bad and if you are from the midwest, it's a huge shell shocker!!! Not to mention a lot of the pt's don't get care they deserve because in California its all about who has insurance and who doesn't!!!! In the interview they talk about how many travelers they have and how many of them come back because they love it so much.........it was all lies!! In the 13 weeks I have been here, I have met 7 different travelers and all of them stated they hated it and would never come back. Worse part of all, our pay dropped half way into our assignment....almost a $5/hr pay cut! And don't think that just because it's CA that anything over 8 hrs it time and a half-cause it's not!!!!! Once you get here, they make you sign some paper stating that you sign off your right to get that money!!

And the hospital also stated that they would take care of housing so our company didn't have to....they said it was brand new!!! More lies, it's a dive and there are all kinds of plumbing problems!! BE VERY CAREFULL AND GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE IN THE TRAVELING NURSING CAREER!

I'm there now. I have to say it all depends on your agency and what unit you are assigned to. I have been happy with the unit I'm assigned, and my housing is very nice (provided by my agency) and I actually extended another 4 weeks and for that I got an additional $2/h. I have floated 4 times in 13 weeks, and always to like units. I have found there is a difference in the way quick 4 week assignment travelers are treated as opposed to longer assignments. That said, it is an odd (quirky) facility in that it is super funded by the super wealthy, which brings with it an entirely different mindset to patient care. The staff nurses are used to that, and roll with it. I have seen some travellers find it hard to adjust to the EMC way, and others that fit right in. Again, I am very happy with the unit I am assigned, and would consider returning. The only reason I didn't extend longer is because I can't wrap my mind around triple digit temps.

If considering an assignment at this time, one should consider they are transitioning from paper to McKesson, and going live later this week.

Have heard good things about Eisenhower through the grapevine. Stay away from DRMC in Palm Springs!!!! Very unsafe nursing care. Encourage your company to house you in Rancho Mirage, much nicer area.....
