Hello everyone,

I was hoping to delve a little deeper into a discussion regarding Eagle Gate College. I know there are a few similar posts already but I wanted to talk a little more specifically about this college.

Here is the background info. I am California-based, on the verge of completing a local LVN/LPN program, and I am doing my homework to find the best program for me to continue on to RN afterwards. I attend a for-profit tech/vocational school with an accelerated LVN program. We were told about our school’s expansion school, which happens to be Eagle Gate College in Utah, as a cheaper alternative for an accelerated BSN program. I have already spoken to the school regarding pricing and everything and it seems like a good deal. However, upon looking at the reviews of the school, a few of them said that they were unable to do anything with the degrees/certificates they obtained at Eagle Gate due to accreditation. On the flip side, a few more recent reviews read as positive experiences from the school.

So finally to my questions, I am by no means an expert on the whole accreditation system, I know there are different levels but I am unsure how that whole thing works.

1) For those of you who are more savvy with the education/accreditation system, will a BSN from Eagle Gate College be recognized by employers/other schools?

As a bonus question,

2) Will a BSN from Eagle Gate be transferable to other states? Like if I decide to move back to California after?

If you’ve made it to the end thank you for reading it all! And thanks in advance for any replies!

I am seriously considering making the move from California and getting into this program, so I just want to make sure I’m not shooting myself in the foot.

It is shooting yourself in the foot, tbh. I went to a similar school, not eagle gate, and learned the hard way. They are likely nationally accredited, but not regionally. This causes a lot of headaches when you try to go back to get your BSN, or apply for grad school. Some of the credits aren't recognized and you have to retake them in order to advance your career.

Yes, it could possibly affect your CA licensure. As long as you are a RN, with a license, then employers recognize you no matter where your degree is from. But as far as other schools... that's where you run into problems.

Your degree will transfer to other states. Licensure and credits obtained... may be trickier.

Do yourself a favor and go to a local community college, one that has regional accreditation (gold standard), and you won't have to worry about all this sh*t.

Plus, Eagle Gate is expensive. Don't do it.

Thanks for the feedback ICUman.

Those were some of my biggest concerns as I don’t want to restrict myself from being able to continue to advance in my career.

Back to the drawing board.
