I am a recent nursing graduate with a BSN and applied to Duke's BSN to DNP to start this Fall 2016 and received an invitation to interview next week via Zoom online!
My NP concentration/major is Adult / Gerontology Acute Care and I'm very excited (and nervous) at the possibility of getting accepted!
Questions:
1) Anyone else get an interview? What concentration/major?
2) Anyone know any statistics of how many people applied this year, how many get interviews, and how many spots are open for their concentration?
3) Any past or present Duke BSN to DNP students have any advice on what the program is like and what the interview process entails?
Thank you ahead of time and best of luck to all of you out there!

My only experience is an interview for the MSN Informatics. They interviewed 10 for 10 slots-was told about 30 something applied. My feeling is that if you are granted an interview, a slot is most likey yours to lose. I know the MSN-NP program is HUGE and it is very competitive, I don't know about the BSN to DNP. I have the option of switching to the DNP program if I want.
Good Luck!!!

Thank you for responding! I know it's very competitive but I've been hearing mixed opinions. Yours is the first non-reassuring I've had but I guess it comes from a different place as you've applied for the MSN in Informatics. But it's awesome you're at Duke and have the option of getting into the DNP program! Are you going to do it?
probably! I didn't mean to be not re-assuring, it a huge deal to get an interview. I just read another post about this, wish I could find it to give you the link
That would be great if you could find the link! I appreciate the help!

I have an interview for the BSN-DNP Pediatric Acute care track next week! I am super nervous too.
Awesome, congrats! Don't you mean this week? All interviews are jan 19-21.
Do you know anything about how many people applied to your major and how many spots there are?

Hi! I realize this is an old post but I'm pretty much searching ANYthing I can find about Duke's BSN-DNP program. How was the interview? Was your interview in person or via webcam??
Thanks!!
I did mine in person. I work there. I am halfway through MSN, working on getting the 500 practicum hours I need.
Congratulations!!
Thanks SO much for responding. I know this was about a year ago for you, but I assume applicants are contacted for interviews during the 3rd week of January? What questions did they ask? Praying that I get that email! If you don't mind me asking, what was your GPA when you applied? I only had a 3.69. But I have 3.5 years of experience, 1 yr of travel nursing, and did some volunteer work in Guatemala so I'm hoping that looks good to them! lol
Were you already working there when you applied for the program? I assume as an employee of Duke, you pay a discounted rate for the program? I am aware it's very expensive but just wanted to know how much exactly students are paying out of pocket, I estimated the amount and it came out to be about 8k/semester.
Thanks SO much!!
I started in Jan, so my interview was in August. They just asked questions about what my interests were and why I wanted in the program. I know I had to write an essay as part of the application.
The professors are really nice. My GPA going in was I think somewhere over 3.5 for undergraduate hours and I do have a masters in teaching with a 4.0. I have a ridiculous amount of hours.
As far as tuition, I do not get a break, but they do offer tuition assistance, some is just for being an employee, but another, big chunk, you have to commit to working there for a certain length of time, which I have no trouble with. I love being there.
Your experience will definitely help you! They do a lot of "global" health projects where they go to places like Haiti and South America. If you speak Spanish-that is HUGE. Keep us posted! Good luck!!!
