Hello all,
I had a DUI in 2019 and the CA State Board is just now getting to it. I have an attorney who is recommending going through all of the hoops which I am considering. CA has SO many mandates! For someone who has never been in trouble this whole process has been completely demeaning and I am just now getting to the point of forgiving myself. This happened on my time and it was a stupid move on my part. I do not do drugs etc...Anyway my original state of license was ID where my new grandbaby is (BEST thing ever!) and I am exploring other career options (pandemic took it's toll on this NP as I am sure it did others). I am looking at this as a positive to move forward in life and do my best work. If I decide to stay with nursing and that is a HUGE IF, I have a couple of questions.
1- If I surrender my license in CA and I keep my ID license and do some travel nursing to visit grand baby - do I need to keep my CA license if I am not practicing in CA?
2- If I decide to do some case management remotely so I can help with the baby - do I need to keep my CA license if I obtain a license in another state?
3- For manager/director roles do you need an active license if you are not seeing patients? My employer has been very supportive through this whole thing and they do not want me to leave and actually are considering me for a regional role - I am unsure of how that works for license.
I really appreciate any help and information. For those unfamiliar with the CA Board, it seems easy enough at the outset to meet the requirements, but it really is cumbersome and expensive. This has been completely demeaning and while I understand the reasoning behind it I really want to move forward with my life on a positive note.
In gratitude,
CA NP
