Double Major; Nursing and Social Work

Published

Hi everyone,

I am thinking of a double major in nursing and social work. What do you think? Will the two complement each other?

There is not enough hours in the day to do them concurrently. You would have to get one degree and then the other.

Here is the nurse social work practicioner program at USC: http://sowkweb.usc.edu/docs/academic/Nurseads.pdf

It looks great, but I think it is a master's program for nurses.

It is a masters program. I definitely want to continue my education up to the point of DNP/PhD so I am just exploring my options.

Oh....you had said you wanted a double major. That usually means that you intend to do two majors at the same time as an undergraduate, i.e.-chemistry and biology. I have two master's degrees: Communicative Disorders and Nursing. I will begin my PhD in Fall 2010.

So....GO FOR IT!!!! Education is always great!

:):):)

So a major is an undergraduate degree right?

Were you able to complete those two majors concurrently?

And good luck with your PhD!, Fall 2010 is when I start my nursing pre-reqs, I am starting while you are finishing lol

When you get a Bachelor's Degree you major in something. I majored in Communicative Disorders. I then continued and got a Master's Degree in Communicative Disorders. I was a Speech Pathologist for a number of years. I just went back to school and got a Master's Degree in Nursing degree (MSN). Today I start my new career in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU). Good luck to you! I am impressed with your ambition at such a young age! My advice is to always protect your GPA. It will follow you for the rest of your life! Have a great time!
