Hi. I've been an LPN for about a yr and some change now. (August 2012 to be exact). Ive worked at 2 LTC facilities thus far. Still work at both places. Ive come to terms with the fact that I definitely am not cut out for LTC facilities. I hate it. I hate my job. I wake up dreading going to work. Heck, sometimes I cry. I get so overwhelmed at work. Theres so much work to get done, so little time. I seriously work myself to the limit at work and still find myself never leaving work on time. I don't take breaks. Ever. To make matters worse, my facility has this stupid rule where you have to punch out by a half hr after your shift ends. So basically you get taunted for staying later. Like hello, what do you want me to do? I do everything I can to ensure I finish in a timely manner but I just can't. This has been making me really stressed out. I mean extremely stressed out. At work I find myself to be soo overwhelmed at times where I have to run to the bathroom to calm down and try not to cry. (I know - you must be thinking what a cry baby, right?)..Anyways..Where else can I work? I've heard that LPNs can work at doctor's office, yet I haven't come across any positions. I live in NYC if that makes a difference. Are LPNs in NYC only made to work in LTCs? Are there any other options?
Sorry for writing a whole essay. I truly thank everyone that took the time to read this. Any helpful suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Here in CA there are plenty of home health opportunities for LVNs. They typically look for at least a year experience and you have that so maybe you could look into that. Home health allows more of work at your pace situation since you will not have the patient/work load like in a LTC. Some cases require just a certain number of hours of care and others are all day. I believe pay is case by case or per visit usually. Look into it.

Here in FL, you can work as an LPN in LTC and in medical offices. Also prison and home health. HTH. Good luck.

Yes, I remember the days working at a LTC. There was so much work to do and there was no time to do it all. I know what you are talking about.
A doctor's office, home health, or maybe a prison/jail setting might be a slower pace.

I did LTC for a hot minute and hated it. Now I'm doing home health and it's been pretty ideal. Granted, a lot of skills are never used (it's really a highly paid baby sitting position), but at least it allows me to pursue higher education. I think you'll really like home health.
