Don't Forget to Thank a Nurse Today - It's Nurse Appreciation Day

AolJobs

by Mariya Pylayev

This article, published earlier this week, talks about what an important role nurses play and the impact they can have on others......even years later.

The job of a nurse is as emotionally fraught as it is crucial to the healthcare system.

As the frontline troops of hospitals and other healthcare institutions, nurses are the care providers that patients and their families interact with the most.

'You don't realize at the time and [your patients] don't always tell you, but you can change their lives forever'....

Our own Brian Short had a few words to say about the dedication of nurses.

"It's a very tough job. Nurses are very dedicated to their patients, and sometimes they get overlooked," said Brian Short, founder of the online nursing community Allnurses.com.

Today is Nurse Appreciation Day. Take a moment to thank a nurse for their services to you or a loved one by writing a letter, making a phone call or with a shout out using the#thankanurse hashtag on Twitter. A simple "thank you" can go a long way.

I always thank the nurses when I need medical care. They spend more with the patients than the doctors and have to put up with more crap. So they deserve to be thanked.

I always thank nurses for sure!

I am not that type that runs to the ER for a scratch heck it took a lot of twisting my arms and legs to make me go.

I was in asthmatic distress and went to the er at scrips mercy san diego. I was treated very quickly with three breathing treatments steroids and had to have an xray. Turns out I had acute bronchitis.. when they came in and told me I with a sense of humor asked oh "was there a smiley face on the xray? they laughed a little and tried to convince me to stay the night for observation. I politely declined but the nurse came in a few more times before discharging me and really tried to persuade me. I did thank her and never forget her kindness!

most recently I moved to Ohio with my daughter.. I had been having this tummy virus for around 30 days before I got here i was swollen in my ankles and still did not want to go but due to my daughters pleading I went to the Er here and immediately after getting there they put me in the med room. The doc ordered a ct scan with contrast, therefore I had to drink this clear stuff that looked like water. When the nurse brought it to me I asked "what does it taste like?" he said if you can imagine stale water that about sums it up" " I said Oh San Diego water!" He laughed and watched me drink it I took my first sip apprehensively I said yep straight from cali! he laughed again and said "ok drink up" i did. As it turns out it was a bacterial infection got a rx for zpac and got to go home! when he gave my discharge papers I said thank you for everything and the stale water lol!

Anyone who puts up with my corny jokes deserves a big thanks! you all rock!
