Domestic violence, a cautionary tale:

BE SCARED! In AZ now, the law is that if cops are called to an address for a domestic violence claim, one or both parties involved (or more) are automatically arrested, and questions are asked after the fact. This is allegedly due to the large numbers of DV calls, the risk to the cops, and the difficulty determining which if any party was the causative factor. If you are arrested, you will forever have a criminal DV record, whether you are cleared later or convicted. Also, there is a mandatory $1500 fine, mandatory evalution, with follow up mandatory counseling, which is huge bucks. The problem? ANYONE call call in an anonymous complaint, and forever alter lives for the worst. It's much like claiming child abuse- once the cat is out of the bag, your life can be destroyed. So if you are in the habit of loud arguments with a sspouse, etc- might want to consider keeping things quiet, out of earshot of neighbors?

In Anderson, IN., any altercation = both parties arrested. It is considered "mutual combativeness". I am not entirely sure what an innocent victim is to do; however, I would think twice about calling the police. This is all revenue-inspired. Unemployment in this town of 50,000, is easily at 50%. Every block is full of vacant houses (my block of 12 homes has only 4 inhabited). I know most cities in Indiana are very similar if not worse. Banks are being robbed here in broad daylight and the robbers don't even bother with ski masks! LOL

Money is the obvios reason, but whats the other ulterior motive. Imagine someone putting your children in danger, destroying your property and attacking you.........the police was called and you end up with an arrest record....but wait ....all charges dropped by the procecutor.....Now comes the jobs ,that dont want to hire you because you were arrested for battery......what a system......lol

Any time anyone is charged with anything and the charges are dropped, their record should be wiped totally clean, all the way, without a trace. Anybody can always charge anyone with anything, happens all the time. On the other hand, I can see cops arresting automatically at the scene of DV, since so often the victim drops the charges, which is a self perpetuating cycle.
