Doesn't seem to be a shortage in MN, does there

New grad getting a little worried here about finding a job. I need to get into ICU but will take anything at this point. I live near duluth and have no prior healthcare exp. Anyone else having trouble??? I am an ADN grad but am pursuing my BSN immediately. A friend of mine just got a GREAT deal in Tucson - $25/hr to start, orientation into a 42 bed ICU unit plus relocation and bonus. I am so tempted to post resume on internet but we are fixing up our house and have small child - bottom line - we can't move right now.

I guess, I'm just wondering is others in snowy, cold MN are having trouble finding a job. Also, it seems like hospitals are wanting more and more BSN's. Scary for me since I don't have mine. Anyway, what do you all think?

hello-- i used to live near duluth-- superior wi to be exact-- moved down south then came back to twin cities area last fall-- thought there was a nursing shortage too-- thought it would be easy to get a job-- went to job fairs, called facilities and put in applications and resumes-- very difficult-- have been an lpn for 20 years-- ended up going agency-- nursing positions are extremely difficult to come by especially up northern minnesota and northwest wisconsin-- they are few and far between-- yet facilities continue to work short--but don't hire--recommend agency work at least until you decide what you really want to do--pm me if you wish--for more details

The problem with agencies is that I thought they required at least 1 yr exp. Maybe I will give tham a call today and see. Yes, its so frustrating up here because the economy is poor, politics involved, blah, blah, blah. I lived in the cities for 5 years - loved it. Came back here, ended up getting married and bought a house. I keep applying at St Mary's for everything under the sun. I'm giving it until x-mas - if no job - we're moving, peroid.

25 an hour in Tucson AZ? As far as I know the going rate is 19 or 19.50 a hour (that is without differential)...just a question what hospital in Tucson is offering this hourly rate

I believe its called Northwest Med Ctr - but she worked this deal thru a recruiter. She got $4000 relocation bonus - cut her the check before she moved. Its an awesomw program - 12 week orientation program in ICU. Brand new hospital unit. Mon she goes to class, Tue/Wed she works 12 hr shifts practicing what was learned Mon. She has the option to pick up another shift at time and a half plus 8.00 shift diff. I know it sounds too good to be true but believe me - I doubled checked with her 3x. And I know she wouldn't lie to me. She's going to get me the name of the recruiter as soon as she unpacks and gets settled.

This recruiter hired about 12 ppl from all over the US - I don't think any were from AZ.

Specializes in Mental Health, MI/CD, Neurology.

I also live in the Cities but I am originally from Superior, WI too. :) I'm fairly familiar with the crap that is going on in the Duluth area as far as the shortage of nursing jobs.

My brother, who also graduated with his ADN, said that there were no hospital jobs in Duluth. When he had first finished school he got his permit and got on as a nurse tech (is that what they're called?) before he took his boards. Once he passed his boards, he would be hired by the hospital. Unfortunately he didn't pass his boards, his permit expired, and he was out. :o

I'm sorry to say this, but I think that getting an ICU job up in that area would be sheer luck. Have you thought about looking for something else?

I truly wish you luck. It's a tough situation that you're in. There are quite a few jobs in the Twin Cities area, and the pay is a bit more down here too. Come on down! :)

Hey I often wonder if there is a nurse shortage!!!

The places around here like the new nurse grad...

However, if you have been in someting like (me, LTC) you are just about black balled.....

I have been looking for a job around the area ...for a lonnnnnnnnngggggggggggggggg time....

finally went with a travel place...and had a 8 week stint in Rhode Island and people, it was not fun!!!

Rn with Michigan and Wisconsin licenses and unemployed ...any one out there who may know of a place in any of thiose states that have jobs????

Do u have a ADN or Bachelors???? I know many people who are getting jobs is Wisco but they have bachelors from UW oshkosh, and they also got sign-on bonuses. I think it all depends on education. What type of education do you have?
