Does Anyone Use NICU View?

The parents love it and are really impressed that we offer it...it requires a lot of extra work for the nurses and MANY extra phone calls of "can you fix the camera?" or "my baby is crying" but I think some families are happy to log in, see the sleeping baby, and not worry about them as much.

Now it's part of our routine - check on babies, check on orders, check the camera, so I think we are doing better with them now. It's just hard when you are busy and can't always check on all of the cameras and the family is calling all night.. or want the baby facing the camera at all times even if we explain that we have to change their position! haha

We talked about getting them in our new unit but are hesitant because of the things you stated. One other NICU in our area has them but they only turn

them on at certain times of the day.

Our secretaries would have a heart attack if our call volume increased, our desk is a mad house as it is! Lol

Ditto on the parents loving them. Ditto on calls to move camera or tell us about baby crying. We've had a lot of problems with the way they mount to the wall. The mounts keep breaking and they have to be sent to the company for repair. So there's always a whole handful of,beds without a camera. Moving babies gets interesting ifmthe intended bed space doesn't have a camera and Mom is attached to it.

We have Angel Eye cameras, they're still new so I can't speak to long term use issues but so far it hasn't been a problem. We were worried about the increased call volume but honestly, I think we've seen a decrease. I personally haven't fielded any calls about fixing the camera or that the baby is crying. We make a point to tell the parents when we set it up that this is a learning curve and it may not always be perfect. Also that babies cry and this is an intensive care unit, we may not be able to get there immediately and that's okay. We also let them know very clearly that this is a privilege...we can shut the camera off any time we want to and if they drive us crazy with it, then we reserve the right to take it away...in a nice way of course

But I think it's a wonderful thing, the parents love it. If I had a baby in the hospital I would love it too. I write little notes and leave them in the view saying how much the baby weighs, or how much he/she ate, or just any little love note and sign it from the baby, it's all about attitude and I have fun with it :)

We have had them for about 2 years now. I agree with just about everything the above poster said. Parents love them. We turn them off for cares and just about any time we are in doing something with the baby.
