Does anyone have any advice about wanting to quit working in a hospital and going to a doctors office, or somewhere that the schedule is more consitent. How are the medical benefits in doc. offices, are they comparable to hospital benefits? I am so confused and stressed, I don't want to quit and screw myself in the long run. What is the average salary for nurses in doc. offices? What kind of nursing jobs does everyone have with consistent day schedules, perferably with no holidays or weekends? Help I need advice

I've worked in various dr.'s offices and clinics. The pay is much lower than working in the hospital. You are looking at least 30% less by working in the doc's office. Pay raises are very infrequent and small.
As far as benefits, they can ranged from zero to basics like medical /dental only. There may may or not be any retirement benefits. There usually is going to be some paid time off for major holidays - Thanksgiving/Christmas/4th of July/ Labor Day- if they fall on a workday. Otherwise, those days aren't paid for. Again, there may or may not be some paid vacation time.
Sounds good, right?
The trade off is that you will have a set schedule/ no weekends. It's not as stressful as working in the hospital.

Thats a good question, I've been wondering the same thing. I'm 21, and just starting, and I want to have kids eventually and I think working in a dr's office would be better schedule wise, but you do lose the money/benefits! You just have to figure which is more important! Good luck!

If you are in a hospital based clinic, generally you keep your same pay scale, when you transfer to that department. There are many benefits, but you also have to look at the hours of operation etc. I've done this and couldn't be happier. For the last 9 years I've received the same raises etc as if I were on the floor working. I wouldn't , however want an off site clinic job , due to the pay cut.

I worked in office OR's for many years. FORGET THEM. Lower pay, little or no benefits and you can be fired at any whim. Some will even lay you off while they go on vacation! It may be a good job for AFTER you retire but not while you're working toward one. IMHO
LOL- I worked for one doc's office, who gave us 2 options, when he went on vacation- take unpaid leave or help repaint the entire interior medical office, while he was gone.
Another doc's office I worked at had an annual christmas party. However, if you attended the party, you were docked 4 hrs pay, because the doc's closed the office and the party was held off-site during business hours. What a wonderful way to show appreciation for staff:angryfire
