Do any of the USMC?Navy bases hire civilian new grad nurses?

Published

Just curious if any of you work as civilian nurses at any of the San Diego/ Pendleton base hospitals. I would love to work at a military base hospital when I graduate but as a civilian and want to know if any of these hospitals like Balboa even hire civilian nurses and new grads at that? If so, are you hired as a federal employee and at what pay grade? i will have my ADN and a Bachelor's in a non-nursing field. Any info would be so appreciated.

Thank you- Toby

Had a few friends who worked at Balboa and they were hired on through a local agency. Seems that the federal government is out sourcing a lot more through private agencies.

YOu can work at Balboa in San Diego or Camp Pendleton in Oceanside as a cicilian RN. You could be civil service...if they have any openings or you could be considered "contract" and be hired by an agency that staffs nurses for the military.

One note, I would definitely, definitely[/I] not reccommend going directly to these facilities as a new grad. I would suggest a more mainstream experience at least your 1st year. I currently do work as a civilian on contract to a military hospital in So Cali. You can pm me if you want more details.
