Do you think "Allnurses" should ask before posting on FaceBook?

Hi,

I understand that AN is trying to broaden their audience through the use of FB, but does that decrease our chances of remaining anonymous? I think it does and feel that AN should ask users before posting posts on FB.

Does anyone else feels this way? Do they already do this? I personally would not want any of my posts showing up on FB.

Annie

If you post something on the internet, you have to be prepared that it's going to be seen by anyone and everyone, which is why you should take care to post only things that you wouldn't mind being discovered. I don't see, if you're careful, how anyone can tie your username to your actual name, so I don't interject on the AllNurses Facebook page at all.

Isn't the FB page NEW? Or am I missing something? Wouldn't you be required to have users reread your TOS if you change it?

I'm not crazy about it ... because I feel the exposure adds to the risk. But I accept it as part of being on the internet. Once something is posted anywhere, it can be copied and posted anywhere else. As I have always said, "Posting on the internet is like going out into the public square and shouting out. You never know who is going to be passing by and hearing you."

Everything you post here on AN is already public. Yes the "audience" on FB is larger but its still already public.

And since I assume your name isnt really AnnieOakly and mine isnt Broughden, I could care less what they post on FB that Ive written.

With me it still boils down to the fact that if I wanted to participate in FB, I would join FB to participate. Just one more matter to make me question participation on AN.

I agree. While I understand that what they are doing is totally legal ... I don't post other people's stuff to other sites unless I ask permission. Asking is the considerate thing to do.

Maybe a checkbox on the "create a topic" page would work.

My thoughts:

AN's FB page was created in 2008.

Most people just click agree without fully reading Terms. Be honest...

Chances are, when most joined, the FB statement was already in the TOS.

Everything on AN can be viewed by the public, including those who have not registered as a member. Since it's accessible to the entire world, I would treat everything as if it's as viewable here as it is on FB.
