once a nurse always a nurse :)

:nurse: I always say that to retired nurses I take care of when they say, "I've been away a long time".

I never went to college when I was young and never had a "career", so nursing is the career I will retire from. I'll graduate the ADN just before my 50th birthday :) maybe write the NCLEX-RN on my birthday. Now wouldn't that be a nice 50th birthday present. :)

Nursing will be my 2nd career as well so, yes, I plan on retiring as a nurse.

I was raised as the daughter of the only doctor in a small town -- answering the phone, doing a little triage, etc. as a child. I entered nursing school at age 18. So, I have spent my whole life "in health care."

I don't know anything else.

I've been an LPN just under 2 years, and I'll graduate with my BSN next year in May. Nursing is my first REAL professional job, but I just started volunteering at a local animal shelter to curb all of the stress that comes along with the job! Somehow, I just don't see myself retiring from nursing--but I haven't put in enough years to appreciate the overall perspective of the profession! :D

In all reality nursing will suck the life out of you mentally and physically. Anyone who does make it to retirement, especially being a floor nurse will suffer the consequences. Get a second degree and plan to nurse from behind a desk. I never thought I would.

Retire, what's that? Not sure retirement will be an option when I am 80 something. But, if it is, I plan to retire as a nurse.
