Do you recommend Hurst Review for Nursing Students

Published

I just finished my 1st semester in nursing school. I'm wondering would you recommend Hurst Review while in nursing school. Do you think it would help me to be successful in school as well as after?

I look forward to your replys

Idk if I would say it would help during school....but I think it definitely helped me to think nclex style in the 4th semester. If u can..taking it in the 3rd semester might have been helpful, but it helped with my nclex studying.

I took it prior to my NCLEX. I think doing it as early in nursing school as you are, it won't quite be helpful yet. You won't know a lot of the things discussed so it will be hard to follow along. I would agree that maybe toward the end of 3rd semester.

Get an NCLEX study book. Learn how to think "NCLEX-y" (Hurst term). This might help you with tests in school, critical thinking during clinical and is advantageous at the end of school so you aren't learning a new way to think right before NCLEX.

It won't make much sense until you're done with school. It's pretty much a book that you fill in the blanks, and at our review our group was able to answer 90% of the questions with the facilitator filling in the blanks. Something I would recommend to use through nursing school is the ncsbn review. They write the nclex and I wish I had known that in the beginning of nursing school

Thank you. What do you recommend I study for med-surg?

Is the ncsbn review a book or website?

I have been working as an RN for two years and I would suggest putting aside the Hurst for now. Spend your energy studying for your exams instead of studying for NCLEX. You will be able to do that once you graduate.

I also recommend Kaplan over Hurst. Hurst is good for basic content, but Kaplan primes you with strategies and their questions are more challenging and more on par with the NCLEX. I hope this helps.

Thank you for your reply. I will spend this break reviewing the systems
