I am a Filipino nurse. I moved to Germany and passed the state-governed recognition exam for nurses in Germany. For almost 2 years now, I've been working as a nurse in the said country.
Now i am interested in working in UK. I landed to NMC website for nursing registration and found out there are two ways to register, overseas and EU route. I am wondering, if i will be able to register through EU.
A paragraph about the Amendment to MRPQ Directive states, The MRPQ Directive sets out how a professional qualification gained in one EU member state is recognised as equal in another member state. It aims to increase the freedom of movement within member states by professionals, including nurses and midwives.â€
In connection to this, with gained professional qualification as a nurse in Germany, will I be a candidate for automatic recognition? I have currently a working visa in Germany. Will I be eligible to apply through the EU route of registration although i am a third country national?
Who went through this as well? Please, i will be glad to hear your experience.

Hi,
I would say check with the NMC but it all goes on where you trained not where you work
Thanks silverdragon. I did also the registration or the recognition here as a nurse in Germany. I am just confused. Basically, i have the qualification as a nurse here in Germany (part of EU). I read about an article regarding professionals allowing free movement within EU. I sent NMC an inquiry, and waiting now for half a month for a reply. I haven't started any registration yet.

Did you complete your nursing education in Germany? If not just because you are licensed/qualified that does not equate to being trained in the EU. Do you have German citizenship? The priority will be UK citizens, EU citizens, then everyone else.
You asked the right questions justbeachynurse. I neither have the citizenship nor training here in Germany. It's clearer now. I went to a consulting centre for foreign education. They have the same opinion as well. It doesn't mean i have the qualification here, it will be recognised in UK. It may take account but no assurance. Now, i will focus registering overseas. Thanks justbeachynurse!
