Good day! I am a fresh graduate from the philippines, a non-immigrant and is currently in CA. Although I have already been petitioned by my mother (who is a green card holder) in 2009.
I came here to apply for the nlcex in CA and learned that if you do not have a social security number you are not eligable to take the NCLEX.
I decided to take the NY NCLEX instead since it does not require a social security number.
Right now, I am currently in the process of filling out my CVS for NY State and there is a portion that says "information about your professional license"
Unfortunately, I am not a holder of a philippine license since I did not take the NLE.
My question is, do i need to have a philippine license in order for my credentials to be verified? Will it take a longer time for CGFNS to verify my credentials since I am not licensed? and will it affect my chances of applying for the NCLEX in the future?
I will appreciate your help :) Thank you very much!! :)
And do you also need work experience? Because there is a portion in the application form "i recently worked in the country" with an asterisk. Thank you for you help :)

I am sure many have applied to NY with no NLE however best ones to answer this would be the BON
Experience isn't required otherwise how would new grads go through the process. If you have no experience put 0 however if you have not nursed for a few years they may require you to take a refresher course

Hey! thank you for replying,
Do you think I should apply for my CVS first then once my credentials are verified send my application to take the nclex? Because the hand book says "apply to new york state for licensure" as the first step..
I read somewhere that you shoudl apply for CVS first then the NCLEX..
I hope you can clear this up, thank you so much :)
All nurses trained outside the US have to go through CVS. I would suggest starting CVS and then after a couple of months complete application to NY BON in regards to licensure. Remember you are not applying for NCLEX that is just a part of the process
Yes, i understand that CVS and the applying for NCLEX are different things.. but "application to NY BON in regards to licensure" and appliying for nclex two different things too? Im sorry, i got confused.
do you mean?
Step 1: Apply for CVS
Step 2: Application to NY BON
Step 3: Apply for NCLEX
i'm sorry if im a pain I really just wanna straighten things out before I do anything... Thank you for helping.. Theres nobody else who could help
You are not applying for NCLEX. NCLEX is just part of the application process to be a registered nurse in NY.
My suggested steps are
1. Apply for CVS with CGFNS
2. After a couple of months apply to the NY BON for license by exam
3.Once you have eligibility to sit NCLEX from the NY BON (look at a processing time of approx 6-9 months and this includes time to process CVS) register with pearsonvue pay any fees and sit exam.
You are not a pain :) everyone needs some help at some time

Regarding to ur question..
For the CVS here in NY. They don't need the international RN license. It is just a portion for to verify if you are already a nurse in the philippines or not.
For the NCLEX and being a non-immigrant, im not sure if they will allow you without having the Philippines license . But if you are an immigrant you don't need to be a philippine board passer to take nclex.

Thank you for all your help, i now have a clearer plan in mind. I think the 6 to 9 months will buy me time to review, take the extra courses like the Child abuse and infection control courses. :)

thank you for replying, i really appreciate all the help i've been getting, I called the NY BON and they said that you don't need to be a citizen to take the test :) I remember her saying that i just need to state where im living in the US right now. i'll double check tomorrow.
I checked the application form.. There is a portion there that you can state that you are a non-immigrant (temporarily in the US)
You just have to state your visa type and your USCIS number :)
Good luck........... Oh by the way. CGFNS will take 6 - 8 months of processing for your CVS. And it also depends to PRC and your Nursing school.
