I'm just curious if any of your hospitals hire LPNs or LVNs to work with the neonates. Thanks for your replies.:)

In my area, LVN's can be hired to work in either Mother/Baby (where you care for couplets of mom and baby together), Well Baby (where the healthy babies go), and sometimes (depending on the facility), Level II Nursery (the Step-Down nursery for babies that aren't "healthy" but don't need such intensive care). So yes, there are definitely options available for you out there!

can'twait2B1, I did at a county hospital in San Antonio Texas, at Carolina Women's Center on Travel contract, and at MUSC in Charleston, S. C., and in Medical City in Dallas, Texas. So the answer was yes when I did it, but can't tell you as far as where you are. Almost forgot, I worked NICU in Brownsville, Texas, and in all of these areas I worked in level III, except for MUSC. I worked in Level II, but it was my first time there as per diem. Most times as agency, staff will give you what they feel confident you can handle.

Most NICU's I'm familiar with only hire RNs.

We have a few that work in our level 2 area, but I believe they have been grandfathered in... I think we only hire RN's now.

No, not for over 10 years now. Our staff is all RN...and our unit is a closed unit meaning we staff ourselves no floats.
