Do I need IELTS for AHPRA? (overseas nurse)

I am registered nurse here in the Philippines. I recently took IELTS and sadly my score was not enough for AHPRA requirements.

I got 6.5 for Speaking, writing - 7, reading 7.5 and listening 8.5. my overall band score is 7.5.

I understand that they are requiring to have at least 7 in each test with overall band score of 7.

my husband in australia called AHPRA and they said it doesn't matter as long as I can provide an evidence that

I taught and assessed in English in my secondary education and during my college days in nursing here.

How true is this? I am still worried because bridging courses offered in Victoria state requires for 7 in ielts score.

I am currently waiting for my spouse visa to be granted and now I am off to Oz.

according to the australian nursing and midwifery council's website:

these tests are:

international english language testing system (ielts) - academic test. nurses and midwives must achieve a score of 7 or more in reading, listening, writing and speaking with an overall band score of 7 or more of the ielts test. visit the ielts australia website

occupational english test (oet) for nurses or midwives - nurses and midwives must achieve a b pass or greater in all four sections of the oet test. visit the oet website

although ahpra manages registration and administration of registration, the anmc sets the standards of registration. in other words, regardless of what ahpra may have told your husband (and i wouldn't trust anything unless it was in writing, and probably not even then), the anmc won't approve registration unless the english language requirements above are met.

though nurses from english-speaking countries may be exempt from the competency assessment component, british nurses still have to pass ielts (and aussie nurses have to do the same to get uk registration).

Pls I am an international educated nurse and wish to work in Ireland Rep.I have submitted my credentials to ABA and their final assessment is taking ages but i know i will get it soon.

Whats the next step to getting a place for adaptation now-i hear Ireland is facing a recession but i know it can be done.I am not an EU citizen-i wonder if this is important.

Please i will appreciate informed and current advise and help.Thanks

As per AHPRA, nurses coming from English speaking countries like US, UK, Canada (except Quebec), Ireland, may also be exempt from taking the english language exam.

Even my co-worker who came from the Bahamas was no longer asked to do the english exam by AHPRA as english is also their primary language.

If you are coming from the Philippines though, you will definitely have to take the IELTS exam as english is not the primary but just a second language in the Philippines.

You need to get a hospital or nursing home to sponsor you for a place on an adaptation course I believe. It has been nearly 3 years since I was at home so I don't know who or where they are doing them.

Ireland is about to be bailed out by the EU. 85million euro! We are not facing a recession we are in the middle of one worse than the last 2 (1960's and 1980's). I have friends that are unemployed because they had to be let go from jobs simply because of funding. All public sector workers agreed to pay cuts under the Croke Park deal.

I doubt that anyone is going to hire you and pay for a visa when they have local people available for the job. I know when I graduated in 2006 it was a different story.

i am RN in UK from last 3 years and successfully completed 3 yrs degree program (Bachelors of Nursing) in UK, however my secondary school education is from india(in English medium). although i am a british citizen, i have been told to complete IELTS with minimum of 7 band in each component. i have recently sat in IELTS and achieved a total of 7.5, with reading=6.5 and i think i have to resit the exam again.
