I have currently applied for a BSN program in Texas. I sent in my essay stating my passion for nursing. I have a 3.6 GPA w/ a 3.3 for my sciences. I didn't do to good on the TEAS, but I got in the 80% on my Math & Reading.. which averaged my overall to a 65% . Does anyone think I might still have a chance in the Nursing school or no? Also, I've gotten on the presidents & deans list my whole college career, Am I really that dumb where I can't pass the TEAS w/ an overall of 80%? Am I not smart enough to make it through nursing school, even though I do not have any C on my transcripts? I just feel alittle depressed with my scores . I've never really done well with standardized test I made an 19 on my ACT when I graduated highschool & made a 3.8 my freshman yr. I don't think I am dumb but after my score on the TEAS I kinda feel that way :/ Do I have any hope at all?

I laughed at this post of your self calling your self dumb. ( Who's dumb now, did you see that sentence?
Check this out, I currently have a 1.8, yes a 1.8 and I have DECIDED that I WILL go to nursing school. Nothing will stop me. I am re taking the classes I got F's in and working my ass off. Listen here little ms sunshine, you can do anything you put your mind to it, I'm a firm believer in that. That being said the science GPA is a TAD, low, I personally won't be applying until I have 3.5 + GPA. That essay should deff help your cause you seem like a competent person I wish you all the luck and I will be sending positive energy your way! :yeah:

at my school, they look at everything combined: transcripts, TEAS scores, interview skills.. I think they have a pretty good idea of what kind of student you are and don't put too much weight on one particular thing. I wouldn't worry about it. I can't remember how I did on my TEAS but I know I just barely scored what was needed (*not good at standardized tests either) my gpa was 3.9 soooooo..... I think you'll be fine. Don't stress about it. :)

While your GPA is great for most feilds, if you are trying to get into a competitive nursing program you may have a tough time. That's the bad news. The good news is that it is still a decent GPA and if you can write a great essay and nail the TEAS then I think you have a great shot. The one area you have to really improve your chances is on the TEAS score. Does the university you are applying to allow you to retake the teas? If so, you need to do so, but really, really study for it. If this means hiring a tutor, and buying the book, and taking every practice exam that you can, then do so. If your issue is not smarts but test taking anxiety then deal with that as well. There are books on this and strategies that can help. If you really want this it is achievable... good luck.

The above posters have said all the important stuff but I just wanted to chime in and say that there is always hope. At worst you will not get in on your planned timing but if this is what you desire I'm sure you will make it work. Just don't doubt yourself

Your gpa is decent but like the previous post stated, nursing is extremely competitive so here are some suggestions...if you can take the teas v again, do so and try to make a better score. I know here at my school you are allowed 2 attempts. Then, consider taking some easy courses to raise your gpa a little higher like drawing or CPR which are 3 credit hour courses that were easy to take to get an A. It's all about strategy. You still have a good gpa but doing the things I suggested can give you a better chance especially since it seems like everybody is trying to get a nursing degree which raises the bar even higher for nursing students.
I am currently in the program. I am starting my first semester next week. I made it in with a 3.99 gpa. Yeah I know you may be saying of course you got in but you almost have to have a gpa of 3.8 or above at my school because there are 30,000 in matriculation and about 8,000 are pre-nursing majors with 1500 applying each semester to the program and only 160 are accepted. Great odds but you can beat them if you strategize, focus, and test well. Good luck...you can do it!

Nursing is very competitive and there will be lots of great candidates applying with you. I took the TEAS times. My second try and third try ended up being exactly the same score. I got in with a 81.2 and start tomorrow.
I would try studying more for the TEAS and re-taking it. How often can you take it where you are?

Like others have said, find out about the selection process for the schools in your area and strategize. You most definitely have a chance at nursing school but it may not be at your first choice program. Buy the ATI testing book, and online pretests and start studying. Get knowledgeable people to look over and critique your essay. Maybe even take more classes to pull up your GPA. I boosted my GPA last year with a study skills class and and medical terminology. I also studied and rocked the TEAs, along with making as high a grade as possible in my science classes. I looked at the admissions process and made a stategy for maximizing my chances. It worked! I start nursing school on Monday. I didn't even apply to my first choice though because you need a 3.8 to even be considered. Instead I'll get my ADN at the local CC (which was pretty competitive itself) and then do the bridge program at my local University. General GPA doesn't matter as much for bridge applicants and it isn't nearly as competitive. I'll still be a BSN-RN with a degree from there...eventually.
Research, strategize, make it happen. Good Luck!
