I stopped nursing full time about a year ago. I found happiness and excitement in helping others (especially credit challenged individuals) realize the dream of home ownership part time. My first month as a loan officer I helped a family refinance their home and get from under $22,000 worth of debt! :) It was a crazy rush. Maybe I was tired of my old working facility, but I felt so comfortable in the the office. I got so much pleasure from that case file that I decided to be a loan officer full time. I still have my agency job and I work a few shifts here and there to keep my skills up and get my CEUs but I just realized that nursing is no longer my full time gig. Anyone else have another job completely unrelated to the medical field?

No, but you're immensely lucky. I wish I had education and skills, other than nursing, that were marketable and of decent monetary value to the job market.

I have considered doing something else at times, maybe in medical records or such. I still see me working in the medical field, but I would like to obtain another skill besides nursing. Your mind and body has to be 'on' at all times. You are lucky to have been able to do that.

I would just like to know, how did you get to become a loan officer, did you need any kind of special training?

I obtained my real estate license a few years ago. My commissions helped me pay for nursing school. I still do about two transactions a year, either as a listing agent, buyer's agent or providing the loan. My office has a mortgage broker on site and we earn the same commissions as if we were closing on a house.
Good luck in your loan career!
Tiff, I PM'd you back. Scallywags, that is awesome! So, I guess it's safe to say that you enjoy nursing more than RE. LOL! The market is so depressed right now and it can be a struggle making those 1-2 closing per month, but geez... I went on an agency job this past week. The first part of the shift I convinced myself to start picking up more hours. I LOVE NURSING! Then, after missing my dinner break, sending someone to ED, finding 3 MARs with obvious errors (and calling the respective doctors at 4 AM) waiting for a late nurse to take over, having to go to 3 different terminal to finish charting, leaving late, and getting stuck in 7:45 AM traffic I must say, I am happy and extremely blessed to have my credit repair business and loan officer position. OMG!!!!:angryfire:innerconf
TheCommuter, there are plenty of jobs out there. I was looking HARD and applying EVERYWHERE because I was sort of fed up. But many jobs, including LO positions are OTJ training with some courses and a state exam. If you can pass the NCLEX, you can pass the exam. Some states don't even require a license. Good luck!
Oh gosh...no...1-2 per year is all that I can handle :) Yes, it is very depressed right now. In fact, I had a listing just expire recently. It was the first time ever that I did an open house and only had something like 5 people come.
Yes, I really love nursing. With the high cost of education, real estate was an extreme help in putting me through school.
How does the credit repair work? Have you been successful in repairing credit for your clients? I have had more people who did not qualify for loans d/t bad credit. Makes it difficult when trying to buy a house or refi.
