I can eat through any conversation...seriously I do not let something like that get in the way of my lunch..does not even phase me.

with my days running volley ems,,,we would stop to eat after dropping the patient off at the er and stop at eat n park afterwards. best way to come down after a bad call and destress. conversations among nurses almost always turn to bodily functions

Absolutly nothing bothers me during lunch I eat through any topic of conversation.

I remember one time going out with friends from work and we were sat eating at a restaurant and somebody bought up bodily fluids, we all had stories to tell it was very funny-until we looked at the diners at the surrounding tables who were looking at us with horrified looks on their faces and untouched meals

When I was in my nursing program, about a dozen of us sort of took over the small cafeteria at our school. We'd be sitting there, chowing down and talking about all sorts of gross things we'd seen in our clinicals, not even considering other patrons who might view these discussions as anything other than educational (not to mention entertaining!).

One time, I was holding forth on the topic of a particularly foul Stage IV pressure ulcer I'd cleaned and dressed the night before, and a woman in the booth next to ours looked at me with an expression of total disgust and said, "Do you mind? I'm eating here." Well, I was something of a smart-aleck in those days, and without thinking I pointed to the cheeseburger and fries on my plate, retorted, "So am I!" and went on with my story.:rotfl:

My poor dad. Momma and I are both nurses. Husband is a wound care specialist. Dinner time can get pretty graphic. We have to be careful. He has left his meal because we ruined his appetite.

Dont' think anything really bothers me. I hate feet though, don't want to discuss those.

I don't think anything medical would bother me in the least, but I once had a waitress in a restaurant move me and my family because two college age young punks in the next booth were having a sexually explicit conversation. Totally disgusting.

If I'd been there with a nursing friend or two, we could've quickly turned them green with a discussion of suctioning pseudomonas from a trach, necrotizing fasciitis, a physiologic amputation, or something along those lines, but I wasn't going to get into any kind of discussion with my husband and two young teenaged sons there, so we just moved.

What other people do isn't my business. Just don't make it my business. Please!!!

Know what you mean, Jessie. I hate feet too. YECCCHHHHH.

My sister goes through the same thing at meals......my husband is the maintenance director at the same ALF where I work, oldest daughter also has worked in LTC, and older SIL has a gross sense of humor, so between the four of us, dinnertime conversations tend toward the graphic. She's had to leave the table more than once since she's lived with us.

I talk about everything and anything while eating lunch. Nothing affects my appetite.

i agree. every time a story has made me nearly sick is when it involves some sort of sexual activity.

it's pretty hard to visually gross me out, too, although i nearly lost it when i watched a race car driver decapitated during a bad crash...

My grandma is a retired nurse, my aunt is a nurse, and now me. We have ruined more than a few family get-togethers....

A good nurse can eat a sandwich with one hand and give an enema with the other
