hi everyone...:redbeathe

i am in need of some ideas. i am doing discovery days in the er on tuesday for high school students, and i was wondering if anyone had any ideas.

some things i need to show them are some life threatening arrythmias, intubation, and pacing. i can do all of this on the dummy, however, i was anting to do something that would be creative and intersting, something that would stick in their minds.

i have never done anything like this before and i just found out tonight thast i had to do it.:nurse: so has anyone ever done anything like this before that could throw dome ideas my way?? :idea:

thank you everyone!!!!:bugeyes::bugeyes::lol2:

In the days before I was a nurse and hubby was a paramedic I would assist at "mock accidents".

If you could run a similar type of scenario for an ER to show what it's like in the day of a nurse.

Use the students as guinea pigs if you like and turn them into "patients" give them a scenario to play out. If you had a colleague to play "nurse" to the "patients" without having any idea what their ailments are your discovery day could be amusing. :lol2:

Another idea is getting a "patient" (friend) and making them up to look like a major trauma (or a small one), then basically running the students through the assessment process. This can be lots of fun too with fake blood and wounds (playdough appropriately coloured, spray on second skin or liquid latex and a hair dryer). Have done this too - lots of fun.

Good luck.

Yeah, but she needs to demonstrate intubation & pacing- don't think you're going to find too many volunteers for that........

Oh come on ERRN dont think anyone would volunteer to get tubed or paced, maybe could get someone to volunteer to get defibrillated-lol-just kidding, but all those above are great Ideas.

thank you everyone for your advice and ideas. Seriously, I love this site soo much...anyway, the day went great. I totally forgot about most of my plan as the kids were so interested in the medical field and i ended up having them do do many fun things..before I knew it my time was up..maybe I will go into teaching...naw..won't do that just yet..but I had a great time and so did the kids.

Thanks for the help again..:mad:
