President Obama will convene a Cabinet-level meeting Wednesday to discuss the government's response to the Ebola outbreak, postponing a long-planned trip to New Jersey and Connecticut to campaign for Democrats.

This was decided shortly after the CDC confirmed positive testing for a second Dallas nurse who cared for the first Ebola fatality in the US.

The president is scheduled to give brief remarks on Ebola after the meeting with Cabinet officials at 3:30 pm, EST.

Some excerpts from the President's message:

The United States must monitor Ebola in a "much more aggressive way," President Obama said today, also noting that he has directed the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to send a rapid response team -- which he described as a medical "SWAT team" -- within 24 hours when someone is diagnosed.

The establishment of the rapid response teams follows an admission by CDC Director Thomas Frieden that he should have acted more quickly once a case of Ebola was discovered at a Dallas hospital.

IMO...it should've been addressed "aggressively" from day one.

The President defended the PPE protocols saying they have been used for years. "These protocols work".

The questions is.....which protocols are they referring to....because it is obvious that not all hospitals are using the same protocols. This should've been widely known BEFORE Ebola arrived in the US.

This was the best thing he said which sends a great message to the world about the value os nurses.

"Our nurses and our health care workers are absolutely vital to the health and well-being of our families," he said. "They are selfless, they work hard, they're often underpaid, and so our thoughts and prayers are with them, and we have to make sure we are doing everything we can to take care of them, even as they take care of us."

Obama: Ebola 'SWAT teams' will respond to infections

I watched him live, I was not impressed calling nurses HCW, you do not hear doctors being referred to as HCW. I think the CDC messed up big time .
