Hello, I am a non-nurse with a BA who has completed all nursing pre-requisites. I applied to an accelerated BSN program and was accepted into a program that starts this September. I chose the ABSN program because the only other nursing program offered in the state in which I live is for Clinical Nurse Leader. I decided against the CNL because I am much more interested in bedside care and hope to eventually become a Nurse Practitioner. After submitting my deposit to the school, I am questioning my decision to obtain a second bachelor's degree. I have quite a bit of debt from six years of undergrad, and was wondering which career choice would make the most sense, the ABSN or direct-entry NP program. Thank you for your feedback!

If you did the ELM-NP you would have to move out of state or go to a private university? Considerably, more expensive...stick with the absn. It seems the most cost effective, which is your main concern.

I'm on the same path you are considering taking. I'll be in my 3rd of 4 semesters of my ABSN program when you begin this September. I'm glad I considered this path than going into Direct Entry NP. Nursing is tough and I want full understanding and hands on experience before going back and specializing as a NP.
