diploma and ADN nursing be out?

Published

Just wondering if diploma and ADN nursing will be something of the past. Has anyone heard if a BSN will be the thing of the future? Is going through a diploma or ADN program now even worth it or is BSN the way to go? Any advice will help.

i've applied to a diploma program in Pa...i also live in Oh, and to me i think the diploma program offers a lot more hands on than anything. *just my personal opinion*

I agree, but I was just wondering what the job outlook would be after graduation(2yrs) from now. Will BSN be the requirement?

I think that's been rumoured for eons...but what with the shortage of nursing instructors, etc....I doubt it will happen any time soon.

I've heard that BSN is primarily for going into management. I'm not sure if there is a difference in pay.

Walk into any hospital and look around. There are alot of unfilled positions. There are a lot of adn nurese everywhere you look. Now tell me, what do you think the answer to your question is?

This scenario of making the BSN the entry level to be a Registered Nurse and phasing out diploma and ADN programs has been going on since I went to nursing school in the 70s. I've been hearing about it for over 28 years so no longer even pay attention to this possibilitity-- it is nothing new and probably there will be talk about it for the next 20some years.

I agree I have heard this for years. I have a Masters and make the same as an ADN.

On a recent application it said BSN preferred, but I agree with the shortage of nurses, any of the programs will suffice.
