Difficulty moving on to a new job

I have been working at a LTC/ rehab facility for about 15 months and I would like to move on to a new job. Potentially in a hospital. I just graduated in May of 2014 with my BSN, and my current job at the LTC facility is my first RN job. I have learned a lot at my job but I need to move on and see other areas that I might be interested in. I have been applying to numerous jobs but no success. I have family and friends who have tried helping me with applying at their facilities, but no success. Is there something wrong with how I'm applying? Is there something wrong with my resume? Does anyone have any suggestions? I love my coworkers at my job but I need to leave so I can continue to learn and do more. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

SOME hospitals look down on LTC experience. It can leave folks wishing to move to acute care feeling "trapped in the nursing home".

Also, perhaps hiring managers have had bad experiences with previous graduates from your school, or even that your resume is weak or lacking the right keywords.

Maybe the person giving you the reference isn't looked at favorably.

Maybe there just aren't any jobs?

Read the job requirements for the job posted and then tailor each resume to that job. Use the buzzwords these places are looking for, such as "Patient satisfaction", etc. I have a main resume and then I altered depending on the job I was applying for. Most resumes are scanned for certain words. If they aren't found then your resume will be looked over, no matter how good it may be.

Definitely tailored resume, great advice. Also GO in and speak with a nurse recruitment specialist in HR at the hospital. It is their job to get good applicants in so they will be helpful in finding the right job there for you.
