Difference in pay between private practice and hospital job

Published

Hello,

I am an ADN new grad with license in hand in the state of GA. It has been really hard to find hospital jobs and I was starting to look for a private practice. Does anyone have an idea of what is an acceptable pay rate for private practice RN vs hospital jobs? I am sure it is probably less but not sure how much. I am looking into gynecology practices. Thanks!

You will need to investigate your local employment market to obtain specific information. Salaries in physician offices are hugely variable. Physicians are likely to employ non-licensed staff (Medical Assistants) rather than paying for RNs whenever permitted by state law because they are also struggling to cope with decreased reimbursement income these days. Large group practices, particularly those that are associated with a health care system, will have a formalized salary structure and more benefits.
