I was pretty bummed out when I got my letter from El Centro denying my entrance into the Spring 2008 ADN program. They said that I did not take A&P I and HPRS 1204. In fact, I did take Anatomy and Physiology (just in separate semesters) b/c that was how the pervious unversity had it. I contacted someone who said that I could take the CLEP Exam to try to test out of the course. Has anyone taken this exam? Also, when I was applying back in July I had an out dated information packet and therefore HPRS was not outlined as a pre-req (so I did not feel like I had to take HPRS). I did not go to any information sessions b/c the information should have been accurate on the wedsite. For those who did not get accepted into the Spring 08 nursing program, what was the reason why you did not get in? Of course I am going to re-apply but in the meantime, Does anyone have any advice?
One more thing, Is the course schedule up for classes for the winter term?
Thanks!!!!

I am so sorry that you didn't get it! I almost went to El Centro a year ago and I had issues with getting the wrong information from the website. I was going to apply based on the information on the website, and it turned out that a lot of the information wasn't even right! Apply to Brookhaven! :)
Thanks for the advice. Are you currently at Brookhaven's nursing program? Can you tell me anything about it?
Well, I would certainly apply to both schools next time around if I were you. I'm not sure what area you live in, but for me Brookhaven is closer and I really like the school. I am not in the program yet, I just applied and I find out in 14 days if I get in. I have heard a lot of people say that although they are both great schools, that Brookhaven has better instructors. They both have great NCLEX pass rates. El Centro's is 99% and Brookhaven's is 100%. They are very similiar programs for the most part, but for El Centro you don't have to take Pharmacology or Pathophysiology, which I find to be very important and informative classes.
I think the biggest differences is the prereqs and the admissions process. They are mostly the same except for Brookhaven you have to take Intro to Chemistry instead of College Algebra and you take the HESI instead of the NET test. For admissions, El Centro bases it on GPA (a large part of it) and the Net, while Brookhaven bases it mostly on the HESI score, support courses that you have taken (ex: pharmacology, A&P2, Microbiology, and some others), and a very small portion is based on your GPA.
I applied to El Centro last year and I think I either turned it in late or I was missing something in my packet, I can't remember. It said something about being incomplete. I just lost interest in El Centro after that. The only reason I applied there was because I missed the application deadline for Broohaven.
They are both good schools though! I just prefer Brookhaven because it isn't in a bad part of town (no scary homeless people), good location, no parking problems, great teachers....I just like it. I have gone here for a long time .
And Brookhaven also has a satellite program at Mountainview which is in Dallas (more south) so you could try there also. Same classes and prereqs.
Thanks you have given me alot of good information. Where are you from and where is Brookhaven located?
No problem! I live in Lewisville right now. Brookhaven is in Farmers Branch (pretty much north Dallas) on 635 and Marsh. It's like one block north of 635 and it's on a street called Valley View. Very easy to get to. Definitely closer to me than El Centro.
