Did nursing school prepare you for the NCLEX ?

Published

I am in my second semester in nursing school and I feel as if I am not learning or don't know as much as I should know. My school recently changed its corriculum to. Concept based approach. And boy is it disorganized, it's all over the place. I am passing clinicals with flying colors and have a 102% average in lecture. Yes yu read right . Each exam my professor gives back as many as 10 points . Yea it looks good but will I be ready for the nclex?? I read the assigned readings word for word but will that be enough?

Yes, the school prepared us for NCLEX. Each class had it's own ATI proctored exam specific to the class. We had an NCLEX class that required 200-300 questions per week and a 2 day Kaplan Review Course during the final semester. We had a 100% pass rate with half of my ABSN cohort passing NCLEX at 75 questions.

The tests for the first semester had little NCLEX type questions. The final semesters were almost entirely NCLEX type questions. It got you constantly in the NCLEX mindset.

We have our first ATI exam next month. I'm anxious to see how I do it's worth 3% of my grade. Was there a specific score you needed on ATI?

Concept-based curriculum should produce much better outcomes (NCLEX-wise) than more traditional models because it is focused on development of clinical reasoning (critical thinking) ability rather than than memorizing disjointed facts. I know it does feel chaotic because it's probably very different from any previous educational experiences, but you need to trust the process.

A Level 2 was worth 85% of the points and Level 3 was worth 100% of the points possible. Level 1 needed to be repeated with less points for Level 2 and 3 on second try.

In one word, no. I suspected that even before we took some kind of predictor test toward the end and the entire class failed miserably. Doing it again, I would make preparation for the NCLEX a separate endeavor, with what I think is the proper amount of effort. I say that, because although my program did not adequately prepare me with the required knowledge, I was able to pass the exam. How I passed was a mystery to me.

My school did. Most of the people in my class were all 75Q and out (myself included).

My school certainly did. Good luck

Yes, I feel that my school prepared me well. I did some intensive test-prep the week before the exam, but I passed in 75. The vast majority of my classmates passed the first time as well.

Was it a concept based corriculum?
