hello everyone!

[color=#483d8b]

[color=#483d8b]i am hoping that this thread becomes a success for all dialysis techs -experienced and new, to come together and just discuss the field, such as your daily work experiences as a pct in dialysis, your duties, concerns, questions, comments, etc... i am planning to obtain on-the-job training or course training in this field, and at this point don't have a clue what i am actually getting myself into, but i sure would like to know. any and all advice is appreciated, and judging by other site forums and even threads i've read on this site, i am not the only one with questions regarding the demanding world of dialysis. i hope we can all feel comfortable asking questions / opinions and respectfully learn from each other. :)

Specializes in LTC, SNF.
thank you, I sure will!!

yes I have 18 months to get certified, and I think even if I didn't have to do it, I'd still do it anyway.

what was the most challenging part for you when you started as a tech?

I was wondering did is the company sending you to training? If so, are they paying you to go, and paying for the program or how does that work. I'm a CNA, just started working my first CNA job but I'm very interested in this field and just trying to see how you get start in this field.

Any help would be great

I have been in dialysis so long I don't know what the salary for someone just starting would be. They like you to have some medical background.

We start at 5:00am, some work 8 hour shifts some work 10, I think all dialysis centers are different. Patient load is different for all states. My state has no max that a dialysis technician can have. In Mass I believe the max is 3 patients for 1 staff member. Lucky them. Good luck :)

Hi! I took have been a dialysis tech for some years now and I need to move there! I live in NC and our ratio is 4:1 and if the nurses could squeeze 5 on us they would!:crying2:

I honestly think it's all about who you know! I work for a major well known company and they trained me. It was rough! We started out with about 25 but ended up with 14. It's worth it with dedication since there really isn't many places you could learn how to be a tech...HTH

Hi Californiagirl89! This video helped me decide to become a HDT. It only took me 7 months.

Can I take the Certified Hemodialysis Technician exam if my education and work experience is outside the US?

I used to work as a dialysis nurse in the Philippines and in Saudi Arabia. I was a certified dialysis nurse there too.

I am wondering if I could take the exam as a Patient Care Technician without being educated here.

Thanks guys! I hope you can give me some clarifications.

Hi I would like to know the usual routine of a PCT, do you have time to tal on the phone or FaceTime somebody?

Worst job ever I'm ready to get out

How is the training for patient care technicians at fresenius

I have been with Fresenius for 3 months. I am sooooo slow. I have not worked out a routine. Any suggestions on getting a patient up and running in a timely manner? As of right now I run 30 minutes behind so I am getting yelled at by my patients and my coworkers. My change over then gets hectic as times start overlapping. I've honestly cried more than a few times. I was checked off and the next day was given 4 patients. Its too much too soon for me. Yes I've spoken to my CM who is NEVER at the clinic. She in the process of transferring so she works from home quite a bit. I was told it takes at least a year to build my speed and feel comfortable in this field but I'm drawing now!!! Help me please.

Hi, I see that this post is over 7 years old already. I was just hired as a PCT. I wanted to read more about "turnovers (preparing for the next patient I'm assuming ) however, when I google it, it thinks I'm talking about job turnover, and I've only found one video about it on youtube, but the woman seems to be more or less gossiping. My question is, is there another name for turnover? Maybe I can find out more info by using a different term for it.
