The passing of Dr Guy Laurent

  1. Who is Dr Guy Laurent? I have asked every intern, resident, fellow, and attending and not a single one knew who he was. Laurent was a pioneer in France during the late 1960's in using longer treatment times and a radical restructuring of daily activities of renal patients so they could remain productive. He employed dialysis patients in the production and manufacturing of dialysis equipment when no other employer would hire a person with renal failure. He was able to wean patients off BP meds by longer treatment times and we really should revisit his work as an alternative to the profit driven system we have now.
