The business of dialysis...it is a ruthless one. This is not the first time one of the major players has been in the news. Diminishing reimbursement $$ in the face of an increasing cost of doing business is not always bringing out the best in us. It's a bar brawl to the death.

I'm not sure where this will all end for dialysis as an industry. Corporate dialysis does a lot of things very right, and competition for scarce resources does not mean patients are worse off...they're often better off in many regards, especially when it comes to streamlining practices and research.

I got an email from DaVita recruiting today, and I got this ironic message about the email from my mail provider:

"Be careful! This sender failed our fraud detection checks."

Nearly 1 billion in fines since 2012 over 3 whistleblower cases. Yet no one is in jail.

Is anyone really surprised by any of this? These are for-profit businesses; they will do what they need to do to keep making the largest profits possible.
