Heparin pump

Hi. I am sort of new to dialysis and I was wondering how to set up a heparin pump on a 2008T or 2008K machine.

The best thing to do would be to ask a co-worker because there are bound to be clinic specific policies such as using the pump to administer the bolus and typical infusion time. Also, seeing it done is always better. I would walk you through it, but I haven't used a pump in a few years. If no one else gives you a reply and asking a co-worker is not an option, try looking at the operators manual. Sorry for the non-answer. Good luck :-)

Acutealan is right, don't administer heparin through the machine without knowing your unit's policy. On a Fresenius 2008K our biomed has set the machine up for use with 10cc syringes. Our supplied heparin is 1000u per ml. The machine is set to deliver 0.1cc increments so you need to know what concentration of heparin you are using. Our policy calls for discontinuation of the heparin in the last hour of the treatment which reflects the half life of heparin- 45 minutes.
