Does anyone know about the FMC 'open house' that the units are going to be having this coming week? I have heard, from several, that numerous states (Louisiana, California, for example) will be having open houses? Also, what happens at an open house and does the patient have to sign any kind of paper for it? Thanks.

I interviewed in North Georgia. I was not given a starting salary. I have 20 plus years as a nurse. What I was surprised at is they tell you up front that you must stay a year or pay them for the training. Also not sure if this was usual but you start at 5 AM and go till when ever.

OMG some units in Cali start at 0300... :uhoh3:

WOW... I have not heard THAT one yet ! Interesting. Wonder when they started that? (about compensating for the training?)

Yes, facilities all start at different times, we start at 0500, but we go in at 0400 to get set up. I've not heard of anyone starting at three, though. :uhoh21: Most places start at 0500 or 0600.

As for the subpoena, bbrn had it exactly right. Most large dialysis facilites get subpoenad regularly. Being medicare funded, the gov't. stays on top of us like stink on doo-doo. Heh. :p They want to make sure there's no fraud anywhere, and compliance is a huge must with dialysis facilities. FMC is NOT the only one being subpoenad right now.

As for the raise.. FMC did just drop the previously held 5% annual raise to 3%, and I was MOST disapppointed. We hardly get paid our worth as it is, conisdering the amount of work and stress involved. :(

I didnt know about the training thing either. I guess I should ask about that. It kinda makes me angry about the decrease in the annual raise. Especially where I am at in Ventura. It just makes no sense with the cost of living. Can't the nurses do something about that? It sounds so unreasonable and I feel helpless about what to do. That type of action makes me realize that FMC doesnt give a crap about it's workers. Maybe I'm just better off going back to county hospital at least there the union is constantly fighting for our benefits and raises.

As for Davita buying Gambro. That is not a fait accompli. Davita hasn't signed on the dotted line yet. Will it go through.. probably. Not a total given yet.

Hmmm... I read a while back that the deal had already gone through. The price was 3 billion.

Yeh, here, too. All our Gambros are now Davitas.

I'm a Gambro CD and it's not a done deal yet. Still waiting for the FTC approval. Meanwhile we're pretty much in the dark about what to expect, "business as usual". Though I do believe it's moving faster in the West than in the East. Not sure exactly why, except that DaVita's corporate offices are in CA/WA. I come from a DaVita background and am perfectly happy with the acquisition. Every company has its good points and its bad points, but I think good things will happen here (except that it gives staff and patients less of a choice).

The bottom line is the care is only as good as that individual who is giving it. There is good and bad in all dialysis corporations, all hospitals, etc. I can not say that one dialysis company is better than another for I have seen good and bad in all of the companies. Therefore, I say again... care is only as good as the staff who are providing it.......................and, kudos to those who care and provide good care in spite of the restrictions that corporations place on them. Again, today I observed how hard staff work in one unit. The more patients the more money (corporate level/share holders).
