Dialysis Nursing, how do I get my foor in the door

Published

I am a LPN, continuing, my RN, in 2009. I would like a career in dialysis. All the job postings, want experience. How, or what can i do, do enable myself, for a position in dialysis? TIA.

I don't know where you live but the job posting on here in my state (NC) is hurting for dialysis nurses. Call your local dialysis ctr and ask how to apply. fill out an app. attach your resume. ask for an interview.

If you are pasionate you will get hired. GOOD LUCK

biker nurse has given good advice. Try that. :)

My friend graduated LVN this year and he wants to be a dialysis nurse. He has been talking to a dialysis clinic and they said they would pay for his training to become a TECH and work there so he can get experience. Then when he is an RN he will be hired as a dialysis nurse and have some experience. This works out well for him because he has all his pre-reqs done for the step up and will enter that program in a few months. Yes his pay will not be that much as a tech but he would only be working as that for about 6 months.

Dialysis nursing has a fairly high turnover. Getting a job is not usually difficult. I recommend that you get a minimum of a years worth of experience in medsurg in your new role as an RN before you make the switch. One of the reasons there is high turnover is an unrealistic expectation of the nurses as well as poor support. Often the dialysis techs are performing tasks that only a licensed nurse should perform and without more nursing experience, you could find yourself in hot water by going along with the crowd simply because the HD companies do not want to pay for enough nurses.
