Desperate to get a job in the San Francisco, Bay Area

Published

Hi all, I'm super discouraged here. Graduated with my BSN last Nov and have yet to get my first job as an RN. I live in San Francisco and the job market here is fierce. Everyone says it's all about networking and who you know, but I just don't know that many people here. I'd love to work in L&D or the NICU, but as a new grad, I'm sure those are likely out. Does anyone have advice on how to land a job without having to offer up my first born to do so? Thanks in advance for any help!

If you are open to relocating, I can provide you places that will take you into both specialties as a new graduate.

Relocation for as little as 6 months can you get you a job back in the bay area. I am from San Jose and relocated to get into a hospital and specialty

Thanks for the suggestions… unfortunately, relocating is out of the question for me, as I am married and my husband has a pretty permanent job in San Francisco. I would be willing to commute somewhere close, but moving away for 6 months isn't feasible for my marriage.

Oh I see. Well then I would look at the blogs here and make sure you have the best resume and cover letter and be persistent. Also doing something else like a clinic job or LTC to get some experience that might appeal to hiring managers.

I am not a new grad, I graduated 5 years ago and have been working as an RN for a wellness company so I do not have acute care experience. I am looking to transition into a hospital position and live the Seattle area and the market is tough. I am open to relocating and am interested in places that will hire with little or no experience. Can you share?

Las Vegas. That's where I live. I also know Texas and Florida and also Reno NV.

Salt Lake City, Utah, will take you in a heartbeat. Into several hospital wards. PM me for details

I can't PM yet, but I live in CA and am willing to relocate to Salt Lake City. I have friends there and like the area, any information you could PM me would be great! I'll send you a PM as soon as I can though.

Specializes in L&D, infusion, urology.

Have you looked into T2P programs, like Samuel Merritt? I know a couple of my classmates just got hired in the last few months at CPMC through that, and there are others. Check out San Francisco General as well- they have a new grad program, and the application process is beyond a PITA, but you never know!

Hi all. I'm in sort of the same boat. New RN and relocated to the SF Bay Area for my fiancé. Still waiting for my temp and permanent CA RN license but so far applying to jobs has been so discouraging. I've only been really applying since April but I'm not used to so much rejection. I feel I have a pretty strong health care background, I did social work prior to becoming a nurse, but in the nursing world I haven't even been given a chance yet. Looking at Residency programs, any and all staff nurse I positions and willing to drive over an hour if needed. I had been really focusing on L&D, women's health or pedi but have broadened myself to get started here. Any suggestions are welcome :)

Any new grads having any luck? My wife just took a position at UCSF and we'll be moving to the Bay from SoCal in a few weeks. I just graduated Nursing school in May and am not looking forward to the job search.
