Depression?

Those of you out there, how do you treat your depression? Do you take anything and if so which medication do you take and what are the side effects of it? What about therapy?

I have been struggling with depression untreated since 7th grade (23 years old). I am not able to afford to see a psychiatrist and I don't have health insurance. If anybody can relate to this please send me comments!

Per our TOS, we cannot offer medical advice. Are you a nursing student? If so, you can look for help through your school's counsellors.

If not a student, can you go to your parents (on whose insurance you might still be)?

You don't need to see a psychiatrist to be prescribed antidepressants, if meds are the direction you think you'll need to go.

Call around and find therapists that offer sliding scale fees. Do you not qualify for any type of aid? I saw on another post that you're in nursing school - most schools offer health services, many include mental health assistance.

I know how crushing depression can be, so take it one step at a time.

Best of luck to you.

OP, this is a topic you've actually brought up now several times on this site. You really need to see someone who can help you- check in with your school's health services and see what they can offer. If you're working, see if there's any employee assistance program you can take advantage of. But you need to take care of you under the advisement of someone who can take on that role- members of an anonymous website cannot do that.

You're right. I have tried once before to get help and they gave me a price that I couldn't afford. This was also including the slide in scale. I assumed that I would be able to push through until I would be able to pay for it.
