Depressed & anxious from job stress?

Published

Hi, I'm glad to have found this site where nurses can vent about their stressors on the job. I've been a nurse for nearly 35 years and recently retired, but I can't afford to live on 20% of my former salary. So now I'm searching for another avenue, but I don't know if it will be in nursing since I can't handle the pressure anymore. Are there any other nurses out there in similar circumstances?

Good news! There are still areas in nursing which are NOT pressure-cookers; for example my job as health services director in a small assisted living facility is a breeze compared with the other nursing jobs I've had. I've also heard it's better in clinics/MD offices and home health; of course, it all depends on your perspective, as well as what you're willing to do and your experiences in the past. Some nurses even manage to become entrepreneurs and build their own consulting businesses, which is great if you don't mind long hours and lots of legwork in the beginning.

Don't give up on nursing just yet........somewhere out there, the near-perfect position is waiting for you.
