Hi guys! I have plans to relocate to the Denver area. What's the scoop? I know the job market is tough...but any advice concerning different hospitals, etc. is GREATLY appreciated. Thank you! :)

What is your area of experience? How long have you been a nurse? We need more info.
I will have just over three years level III NICU experience. My current unit has ECMO, surgery, etc. but not a lot of cardiac. I do have my BSN and RNC, so I'm hoping that that might help...but I've heard that the Denver nursing market is TOUGH. I don't have to work in the most hardcore NICU...but I would like to find a unit with a pleasant work environment and good management ( is that possible?) Thank you so much for responding to my post!!

I think you would find a job here in NICU here. Denver has multiple level III NICUs. I can say first hand I love the staff at Exempla St Joe's NICU working there I always felt they respected me and treated the nursing staff well. However their management has done a horrible job and is currently doing their second round of layoffs in two years. Denver Health has a higher NICU and pays well, it helps to know Spanish there. P/SL has a very high level NICU and are currently building a new fancier unit. However P/SL is one of the lowest paying hospitals in the Denver area. I hear University and Children's Hospital are great, with high level NICUs. I also hear Centura is great to work for.

I work in both the University and Children's NICUs and they're both great, although I think the Children's NICU is preferable, with a better work environment, and more challenging and interesting cases.

Im a new nurse grad and I applied for the new nurse residency at UCH. If I dont get offered that job is it hard to find new grad positions in the Denver area? Im hoping to relocate from Florida if its possible.
Thanks :)

It is WAY TOO competitive to get a new grad job in Denver! I work at UCH and know that they're new grad program along with Children's gets over 500 apps for 10-25 new grad positions. New grad jobs are scarce here. I would suggest looking on websites of major hospitals (exempla, healthone, centura, etc.) at least every week, as some positions only stay open for a few days. I ended up getting a NICU job at the hospital I did my preceptorship at! The position was open for 5 days and got 150 applications! It's a tough market but definitely possible. I would suggest just being persistent- calling nurse recruiters, looking online often, and so forth. Good Luck!
