Does anyone know if my DEA number will change if I leave my practice in NJ and start practicing in in PA (or any move to a new state, for that matter)?
Also, from my reading, it appears Pennsylvania does not require a separate license for prescribing controlled substances. (My home state, NJ, DOES require such a separate license.) Did I read that correctly? If so, I'm assuming the DEA will only be interested in my having prescriptive authority in Pennsylvania, with a collaborative agreement that states I will be prescribing CDS (with the attendant restrictions). In other words, the DEA won't be asking for a separate Pennsylvania CDS license number. Yes?
There are times when having 50 different jurisdictions (51, if you count DC) is real pain.

DEA registration isn't really a license to do anything. They govern controlled drugs, so the registration is merely a way to track/regulate controls, i.e. a registered person/entity may possess, distribute, prescribe, dispense such agents. Institutions have DEA registrations, and there are different levels of privilege. A lot of law enforcement K-9 handlers have a DEA registration so that they may retain and possess such agents as schedule I's to train their furry partners.

To answer your question, you should apply for a new DEA provider number or have your current one moved to the new site/state you will be working for.
