Has anyone started working as a new grad on day shift?? Any nw grad programs in LA that offer day shifts? Is it easier to get a day shift if you start in Med/Surg? Ok, so I'm obsessed with finding a day job cuz I tried working nights as a student assistant (CNA) while in school and I gained a ton of weight and was hallucinating by 7am. Can any one offer any advice?

If you're willing to accept lower pay and move away from the hospital setting, you can find day shifts at outpatient clinics. Northeast Valley Health Center operates multiple clinics that employ nurses, and their operating hours are from 8am to 5pm Monday through Friday.

Your best bet is to go look up different hospitals in the LA area and check out their websites for new grad postings....Where I'm from, they hire new grads, but only once a year usually in August.....But there might be hospitals that hire new grads around the year....I'm not sure, but check out the website and see if there are any positions open.....
Advise? On night shift? It all depends on the person, not everyone is fit for the night shift....I personally work the night shift and I LOVE IT!!!!...I wouldn't go back to days or evenings for anything.....How I do it is that I sleep before and after I get home from work....and I usually get a good nights sleep....it's not easy, but I enjoy the work at night.....Good luck and let me know how you're doing!

It is hard for anyone to go to school full-time and then work nights on top of it. Always difficult, but the hallucinations or whatever you wish to call them were from being up more than probably 20 hours or so per day. And that is not good or healthy for anyone.
I am actually working 12 hour nights right now, and just love them.
Getting into a clinic position as a new grad with just straight days is going to be quite difficult, most employers want to see some type of experience under your belt first.
Right now it is a little later to be looking at new grad programs as they are all starting in the next couple of weeks and most have their slots filled long ago.
Best of luck to you.
I'm well aware that it is difficult to find a day job as a new grad. That's why I posted the question. It is not impossible though, because I already have a part-time day job. That is why I'm looking for another day positions, so I can hang with working two jobs.
Oh, and whats up with the weird new grad progrm start times??? None of my classmates (who graduated in June) have taken their boards yet. I have an IP, but most hospitals wont take IP's into their new grad programs. That means that most of us are waiting for 6 more months to start working. How lame is that!
