D grade, E grade, band 5 and all that rubbish

Published

Hi

During agenda for change all the D and E grade nurses on my ward were put into band five, i am a D grade, anyway, the E grades appealed and won this week so they are going to be put into band 6, thats great for them but it presents me with a dilemma really, i feel that i do an E grade role, i dont do anything different to the E grades at all, infact when i am on with an E grade at night i usually end up being in charge of the shift anyway, i am usually scheduled on shift with bank staff, so am often the only ward nurse on the shift. We are a renal ward and to be alone on my ward you must have dialysis training. At my appraisal last week my ward manager told me that she saw me as a senior nurse on the ward, so i wondered if anyone here has some suggestions about how to put my case forward to be moved to a E grade, at the moment we have a non recruitment policy in the hospital (as most do )

I am only asking as i need to get it right, even if it is just to persaude my boss we need some more E grades on the ward really...

cheers

When was in te UK I was a work place convening and was a welsh board member with the RCN- All in my own time of course! I saw flaws in A4c and worked hard to try for members by the end I felt totally burnt out- and I am not missing all of that one l bit :)

A4C does remind me of the regrading, it is causing huge amounts of discontent and not just within nursing.

i have to be honest, it never used to bother me that much but as it may well be that i am here for a good while longer its sort of become principle to me really, i suppose i do resent people who have less knowledge/skills and who are never trusted to be alone on the ward or in charge getting better paid than me ( im referring to some of the d grades on my ward). mind you we have that many agency staff now, i should be used to that senario...

The e grades obviously resented it too which is why they appealed in the first place, i think that was more about not wanting to be in the same band as the d grades,

i suppose its all about self worth and feeling valued for the job you do really not so much about money

mind you, if being valued in my job is such an issue, working in the nhs isnt the best place full stop..

i am an (E grade) bang 6 and my role at the trust i work is vastly different from the d grades, although on occassions the senior D grades have to step up in the absence of an E grade, but this is stated within their contract.
