Currently applying to AMEDD, many questions!

Published

Hi there,

I've submitted an app to AMEDD for Army Reserves. I have MANY questions! First, my background. 13 years nursing, 11 ER, currently working flight (critical care/trauma). No prior military experience.

My biggest questions:

1- how long does the process take? I want to check the status, but I also don't want to be a thorn in the recruiter's side.

2- with my experience, what rank should I anticipate?

3- does anyone have insight about changing branches after initial service is up? For example, if I went in as Army, did my time, then wanted to switch to Navy, is that reasonably possible? My motivation for that would be the ability to do my drill weekends in my hometown, as well as shorter deployments (if it came to that). But, the Army offers loan repayment and higher sign-on bonuses, so money talks...

Thanks for the help!

Has your recruiter stated when the board meets? Plan on 60-90 days after before you hear anything. As far as switching it can be done but I can not tell you if you will be able to do it. The ability to change will be based on the needs of the services involved.

Your rank should be O-3 (CPT) based on your experience.

Deployments can be just as long in the Navy as the Army.

Has all your RN time been as an BSN? If not when and if you try to switch the Navy will only count your BSN years not any ADN time for rank.

Hi, thanks for the reply!

My recruiter hasn't said much. I submitted the app almost a month ago, and just this week, he retrieved my transcripts from the online servicer. Initially, he told me he hoped to have me in (whatever that means!) by December. However, that was before my app sat for a month. So, no. I haven't been told when the board meets.

All my time has been as BSN.

Thanks again for helping!
