Current Practices/Hospitals using AmniSure

Published

I've searched this topic and found the most recent data from 2010. Just wondering if there are any current users of this product out there. Most importantly, are you happy with it? Reimbursement is a huge factor for my practice to start using this so any feedback you can provide is greatly appreciated.

We just started using it and I am not a full believer yet. Just the other day I had a patient who complained of a large gush, amnisure BARELY positive...AFI 19. Of course there could've been a high leak but this patient NEVER leaked any fluid whatsover during labor. I really haven't researched the product and its reliability studies, but I intend to. It is a VERY expensive test, and to my knowledge we haven't had any reimbursement issues. To be honest, I would rather an insurance company reimburse for drug testing than amnisure.

we use it. Not for all cases ? SROM, but for some, yes. Its an expensive test, that sometimes warrants multiple eyes if the line is that light/barely there. We'll also use nitrazine paper, put a pad on mom and monitor flow, and sometimes a sterile spec exam with a cough test to help further verify

We use it on a limited basis at our hospital...typically for pretermers with questionable ROM. We have used it for a couple of years now, and had a couple of definite false negatives when we first started using them (not sure if this was due to user error or test error since the directions are a bit more complicated than Nitrazine) where AFI was low and + fern with negative Amnisure. Cost is definitely an issue, so we tend to use sparingly and usually in pts under 37 weeks.
